05-11-17
It was Sunday night, at the welcome party for the Showit United photography conference in Tempe, Arizona. Micaela was standing at a cocktail table with some new friends when Chris came over to talk. She knew who he was because of their mutual friend, Chelsea, but Chris barely even realized Micaela was there. He told the group the story of how he used ice cream to build his photography business, and Micaela thought it was genius! But she didn't see him at all for the rest of the week...

how we (sort of) met

Our Story

Chris saw her around, though, especially at the formal ball (where she was turning heads with her pink tulle skirt!)... He thought she was cute and interesting, so after the conference, he looked through the Facebook group to find her. Then he asked a friend (who turned out to be their mutual friend, Chelsea!) if she knew Micaela, and luckily, she did!

Chelsea talked them up to each other and Chris made the first move by messaging to congratulate Micaela on the launch of her website!

how we (actually) met

Our Story

24-11-17
They started Facebook messaging for hours and bonding over random things like superheroes and cheese! Micaela was starting to like Chris, and knew he liked her, but wasn't sure she was ready for a relationship... So in their first video call, she told him they should just be friends...

However, that video call was supposed to last only 15 minutes, and it lasted 5 hours! It became the first of many late night conversations that ended up reassuring both of them that it was meant to be!

late night skype dates

Our Story

09-01-18
They wanted to see each other in person and make their relationship official, so Chris worked with Chelsea and their other mutual friends to plan a surprise! Chelsea invited Micaela to Buffalo for a shopping trip, and Chris surprised her in Target :)

He was only supposed to stay in Canada for a week, but things were going so well that he stayed closer to a month before traveling to Florida with Micaela! They've traveled back and forth together nearly every month since then!

in person at last

Our Story

28-03-18
On March 23, 2018, Chris took Micaela on a date through Riverside Park in Guelph, where they'd had their first in person date together! They went to Tim Hortons for coffee and breakfast and sat on their bench by the river...

Chris began to talk about his favourite memories that they had shared, and then he got down on one knee... Of course Micaela said yes! (With cameras clicking in the background - Chelsea and Ariana captured the moment!)

engaged!

Our Story

05-10-18
Instead of an engagement party, we'll have a short little ceremony and potluck the month before our full wedding to sign the marriage papers in Canada.

This will not be a formal wedding, but all are welcome to attend, bring a little food to share, and join our first marriage celebration!

Get the details and RSVP on Facebook here!

It's no secret that we've both been to a lot of weddings. We've pretty much seen it all, and learned a lot along the way about what we want our dream wedding day to be like! This means that our wedding might look a little bit different from those you've been to before...

What's          Different

What's Different

about our wedding day

If you're part of Micaela's family, you'll recognize our take on an "unplugged wedding." At Christmas dinner, her Uncle Bob noticed that everyone would always be on their phones instead of talking to one another, so he started a tradition! Anyone who voluntarily surrenders their phone for the evening has the chance to win a $100 bill!

We won't take your phone for the whole night, but if you're willing to leave it in a locked box from ceremony to dinner (4:30-7:00), you could win a hundred dollars! Plus, not only will you be more present to enjoy our wedding, but you'll also help our amazing photographer Natalie Franke to take better photos for us (without you on your phone in the background ;P)! Everybody wins!!

how you can win money!

01.

One of the most important parts of our wedding is the fact that our families and friends get to meet each other for the very first time! We are so excited for you to meet each other!! But we know how hard it can be to talk to people you've never met... So we want to make it a little easier for you.

During cocktail hour, you can pick up a card with questions on it. Your task will be to find a few people from the opposite side that you have something in common with, and ask them the questions in order to get to know them. As you chat, you'll complete the card by filling it in with their answers. Before dinner, you'll return the cards, and whichever table turns in the most completed cards will be first in line for the taco bar!

Chris has been to the Grand Canyon several times, and Micaela is so excited to see it for the first time ever! We'll walk above it on a bridge with a glass floor, and maybe even take a helicopter ride to explore from the sky!

Many of you will travel to join us on our wedding day, and we understand and greatly appreciate the time and money that you sacrifice in order to celebrate with us! We are having a small wedding, which means every one of our invited guests is incredibly important to us, and your presence at our wedding means more than any gift!

However, if you do wish to bless us with a gift to help us along our way as we begin our married life, we ask that you remember that we do not yet have a permanent home or a place to store physical gifts. A contribution towards our honeymoon or towards our savings for a future home would be such an incredible blessing!

Questions & Answers

Come dressed to impress in formal attire (your longest, prettiest dress or your sharpest suit or tux) - but note that the ceremony and cocktail hour are outdoors, so feel free to skip the heels if you are worried about sinking in the grass! (And Elijah... Please wear socks ;P)

Since we don't yet have a permanent home and cannot travel with much, instead of traditional gifts, we've set up a registry on Honeyfund!

Do you even have to ask? ;)

will there be ice cream?

where should I fly?

Though the Fort Lauderdale airport is closer to our venue, you may want to check flights both to Miami (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL), as sometimes one is cheaper than the other! Also keep in mind that it's often a lot cheaper to fly JetBlue or Southwest from Buffalo rather than going through Toronto!

We'd recommend staying at a hotel or AirBNB as close to Davie as possible in order to avoid the crazy Miami traffic on the wedding day! Our favourite place to look for hotels is Kayak! Check out AirBNB for some beautiful rental homes and apartments, many of which have pools or are on the water!
